Please note that the colours on the images do not always truly represent those in the actual paintings and that some of the images have had to be manipulated as the photographs from which they were taken were somewhat distorted.
This portrait was inspired by a photograph taken for Canolfan Beaumaris’ website. There was something in the photograph which I felt really captured the essence of Alwyn. I hope that this is captured in the image I created.
A few years ago we had a holiday in the Cinque Terra, Italy, and on the way back we stopped in Lucca for a couple of days. One morning we went to Puccini’s house and later that evening we went to a Puccini recital. At the recital was an incredibly powerful photograph of the composer which inspired me to create this image.
The displays in Puccini’s house in Lucca gave me a greater feeling/understanding of the complexities of the man who created such sublime music and inspired me to create this piece in which the composer confronts an almost but not exact version/mirror image of himself.
This self portrait was inspired by a photograph taken for another purpose and shows the myopic artist looking out onto a world he cannot see with any clarity.
Again inspired by a monochrome photograph this is a portrait of a couple honeymooning in St Briac in the late 1940’s. I feel she is happily looking forward to a new married life with the man she loves. He whilst also looking forward is also looking back on the last time he was in France soon after D Day when his tank was destroyed and he was seriously wounded. Only two of the crew survived him and the driver who were blown out of the tank through the open hatches.
